For this ambitious production, Israeli choreographer Gil Harush, author of The Heart of my Heart for the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin in spring 2018, expresses his passion for the personality and work of English novelist and essayist Virginia Woolf, whose legacy includes 20th-century masterpieces such as Orlando: a Biography, The Waves, Mrs. Dalloway and A Room of one’s Own. Her correspondence with her husband alone is a gripping and heartbreaking read. It stops a few hours before she drowned herself in the river near Monk’s House, their home in the village of Rodmell in East Sussex. Few voices of her time have had such an impact. Even today, Virginia Woolf’s freedom and genius, her formal audacity, her poetic universe and her idea of the independent female writer still amaze us, more than seventy years after her death. Gil Harush develops his tribute to Virginia Woolf in a piece performed by the entire company.
