CO.M.BAT

The genesis of the CO.M.BAT 鬥 project was during the pandemic. it was in that isolation and restriction that I returned to the Higher Judo of Moshé Feldenkrais and enjoyed practicing performing the illustrations in his book, later with the practice manual of 醉拳 Shaolin – it was all revealed, opening like a Pandora’s Box of my childhood, my education, my somatic and martial arts practices, the manga universe, the Western, the saber, flying warriors …

CO.M.BAT
CO for co-existing, coinciding, cohesion, compelling, CHOLERIC
M for movement, murmuring, mobile, musical, mystery, MARTIAL
BAT for beating, building, breaking, BATTLE
There is a need and a desire to showcase our abilities to express that which is subtle, nearly
imperceptible. Practicing a martial art implies developing a way of thought through
movement, gaining physical mastery through the use of the mind.

CO.M.BAT 鬥 is a performative choreographic project conceived for three dancers, performers and an electro-acoustic musician whose subject is laid out in confrontation and interculturality, a space channeling both martial arts and the Western.
It activates and renders dynamic interconnections such that each individual may find his or her alliance and erase the relational, interpersonal and social differences separating us: intercultually.
It is about understanding onself in isolation rather than with others ... reestablishing our physical practice, finding our own corporality and spontaneity in order to create something collectively ours.”

I-Fang Lin

I-Fang Lin was born in Taiwan, she is a choreographic and performance artist and a practitioner of the Feldenkrais method.

Her career as a dancer began in the 90s; she worked with, among others, Mathilde Monnier, Christian Rizzo, François Verret, Emmanuelle Huynh, Jacques Patarozzi, Pierre Droulers, Wen-Chi Su, Dominique Figarella, Philippe Katerine, ERikm, Rinôçerôse, Louis Sclavis, Fabrice Ramalingom, Anne Collod, Didier Théron, Kosei Yamamoto, SINE QUA NON ART, Xavier Leroy, Jocelyn Cottencin and Boris Charmatz …

She created En Chinoiseries [In Chinese curios] in 2016, exploring what she calls the “star attitude,” inviting the musician Frànçois Marry, the leader of the group Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains, to work with her. She was an Affiliated Artist to the Scènes Croisées de la Lozère from 2018- 2021, conceiving and directing Au Large [Off shore], a choreographic project which evokes the Murmuration phenomenon [the sound of the beating wings of thousands of starlings flying in the sky] for amateur dancers from the Lozère region. In 2019 she was welcomed as a resident artist at the NTCH in Taiwan, creating Skein Relations, based on the theme of emotional contagion.
Creating her work, situated between performance art and choreography, between sculpture and image, in dialogue with the visual artist Jocelyn Cottencin, they created Ebloui [Dazzled] together.
She has also accompanied the artists Nicole Rechain, François & the Atlas Mountains, Didier Galas, André Dussollier, Maguelone Vidal and BABX in their production processes. As a Feldenkrais practitioner, I-Fang Lin teaches both in France and in Taiwan: at the Royaumont Foundation, the ENSAD Montpellier, Université Paris V, Extension de Toulouse, the CCN Masters program, PREAC, the University of Taipei, the National Taiwan University of Arts, the NTCH of Taipei, Weiwuying and the ENSA in Nantes …

I-Fang Lin continues to create her work CO.M.BAT.
